Concept

Overview

Fretless is a conceptual jazz club inspired by mid-20th century jazz culture. The branding blends a warm, paper-cutout aesthetic with mid-century modern influences, and offers an ambiance that feels both nostalgic & comfortable. The goal was to create a timeless space where people can relax, connect, & enjoy music. The final brand also includes print materials, signage, & 3 different poster designs.

Process

The design process began with research into classic jazz visuals, with classic album cover designs, posters, & typography from the 1940's–60's. This informed a direction rooted in texture, simplicity, & warmth. The visual Identity includes a logo & branding system that uses organic, cut-paper inspired shapes to convey rhythm & movement. The typography features a mid-century inspired typeface & a muted, warm palette for comfort & sophistication. The rest of the brand includes menus, coasters, posters, & signage that reflect subtle vintage details while maintaining a modern feel.

Results

Final Work

The final Fretless identity captures the essence of jazz through texture, rhythm, & warmth. The aesthetic, expressive typography, & cohesive environmental design create a seamless, all-encompassing experience. The result is a unified, immersive brand that celebrates jazz culture with authenticity & modern elegance. It becomes a space that feels handcrafted, comfortable, & deeply connected to the interconnected power of music.
